Santa Barbara Technology Incubator Adds Two New Members to Board of Advisors

Santa Barbara, Calif., Nov. 20, 2000 -- Santa Barbara Technology Incubator (SBTi), a dynamic environment for financing, launching, and propelling high-technology start-up companies to tier-one venture financing, today announced the addition of two new members to its Board of Advisors. Chris Jaeb, founder of Broadcast.com, and Dr. Kevin Almeroth, of the University of California at Santa Barbara, will lend their considerable technical and business skills and experience to SBTi’s growing portfolio of incubating companies.

Jaeb founded AudioNet, the precursor of Broadcast.com. In 1996 Broadcast.com became the leading aggregator of audio and video online content and developed the largest distribution network for realtime programming on the Internet. Yahoo purchased the company shortly after it underwent its initial public offering. Mr. Jaeb also founded eAds, the first fee-per-click advertising company on the Net. Mr. Jaeb currently assists a variety of charities, helping them promote their causes via the Internet.

“We’re very happy to welcome Chris to our advisory board,” stated Ron Macleod, Senior Vice President for Business Development and Marketing at SBTi. “His technical and business acumen will help us immensely with our strategic planning for both the Incubator and our incubating companies.”

“Santa Barbara Technology Incubator is in the right place at the right time,” said Jaeb. “I look forward to helping its portfolio of young high-tech companies as they go through their growing pains.”

Dr. Almeroth, an assistant professor at UCSB, leads research initiatives in computer networks and protocols, multicast communication, large-scale multimedia systems, and performance evaluation. He also works with the University’s Media Arts and Technology Program as well as the Center for Information Technology and Society, and is highly involved in the California Research and Education Network, California’s version of the next generation Internet.

“Kevin Almeroth is an outstanding addition to our Board of Advisors,” said Larry Green, Chief Technology Officer of SBTi. “His technical expertise will be invaluable as we guide our young start-up companies toward maturity.”

“I’m pleased to help forge a stronger relationship between UCSB and the local business and technology environment,” commented Almeroth. “I see a tremendous opportunity for Santa Barbara to become a renowned center for high-tech innovation in both the academic and private sectors.”

Jaeb and Almeroth join a distinguished group of SBTi advisors from both the academic and business worlds. For more information about the Board’s members, please visit: http://www.sbtechnology.com/about/advisors.asp.
