Santa Barbara Technology Group Adds Three New Members to Board of Advisors
 
Santa Barbara, Calif., Feb. 8, 2001 -- Santa Barbara Technology Group (SBTG), a leader in high-technology business development, today announced the addition of three new members to its Board of Advisors. Dr. Daniel Blumenthal, Dr. R. Stockton Gaines, and Dr. Allen Gersho will add their collective technical and business experience to the group. SBTG’s Board of Advisors is a distinguished group of individuals who meet regularly to advise the company on a wide range of issues, from technology trends to investment opportunities.

Dan Blumenthal is a co-founder of Calient Networks, a manufacturer of intelligent photonic crossconnects. He is an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and also serves as the university’s associate director for the Center on Multidisciplinary Optical Switching Technology. Dr. Blumenthal’s research focuses primarily on advanced optical networking. He earned his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado.

Stockton Gaines is a co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Acorn Technologies. His distinguished career of more than 40 years has spanned the fields of research, industry, and investments. Dr. Gaines’ academic work has included research for the Information Sciences Institute at USC, while his private sector work has included consulting for numerous high technology companies such as IBM, EMC, Silicon Graphics, Honeywell, Unisys, Olivetti, Control Data, and Northrop. He received his PhD in electrical engineering from Princeton University.

Allen Gersho holds the title of Wireless Visioneer at Microsoft Corporation and is a Research Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Before joining UCSB in 1980, Dr. Gersho spent 17 years at AT&T Bell Laboratories. He has been a Fellow of the prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) since 1982, and has received numerous awards from that group as well as from NASA and other industry groups. In addition to his many technical papers, he is also the co-author of Vector Quantization and Signal Compression (1992), a standard reference book on the subject. Dr. Gersho received his PhD from Cornell University.
