Santa Barbara, Calif., March 1, 2001 -- Santa Barbara Technology Group (SBTG), a leader in high-technology business development, today announced that it will be a Marquis Sponsor of “Entrepreneurship 101: Countdown to a Successful Launch,” a conference on high-tech entrepreneurship presented by UCSB College of Engineering’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Engineering Management (CEEM). The event, to be held on March 10 in UCSB’s Corwin Pavilion, will feature panel discussions focusing on critical start-up and funding components of new ventures. Panelists will include high-tech company executives as well as partners from venture capital and legal firms from Santa Barbara and throughout the world. Michael Birck, co-founder and chairman of Tellabs, will present the keynote address. Tellabs is an 8,000-employee company that designs and manufactures optical networking, switching, and broadband access solutions for global telecommunications providers. The conference will also include the presentation of the Venky Narayanamurti Entrepreneurial Leadership Award. Dr. Narayanamurti is the Dean of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University. Jason Spievak, Senior Vice President of Investments for SBTG, will serve as one of the panelists.
